MADISON – Voters on Tuesday will pick a new congressman for suburban Milwaukee and decide whether to give a Northwoods representative a full term.
They’ll also decide whether to send six others back to Washington for another two-year term.
All eyes Tuesday will be on which way battleground Wisconsin swings in the race between Republican President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden, but the state’s eight congressional seats are also on the ballot.

1st Congressional District
Voters in south-central and southeastern Wisconsin will decide whether to give Republican Rep. Bryan Steil a second term for the district that was long held by former House Speaker Paul Ryan.
Steil faces a challenge from Democrat Roger Polack, a Racine native who formerly served as an intelligence analyst and policy adviser with the U.S. Treasury Department.
2nd Congressional District
Four-term Democratic Rep. Mark Pocan again faces a challenge from Republican Peter Theron in the bright blue district centered in Madison. Pocan beat Theron 69% to 31% in 2016.
3rd Congressional District
In the most closely watched race in the state, 12-term Democratic Rep. Ron Kind faces a challenge from retired Navy SEAL Derrick Van Orden in a district that stretches across western Wisconsin.
Kind won his 2018 race with 60% of the vote, but Republicans see potential for their party because of a high turnout for Trump in 2016.
4th Congressional District
Democratic Rep. Gwen Moore is seeking a ninth term to represent her Milwaukee-based district. She faces a challenge from Republican Tim Rogers, whom she beat two years ago with 76% of the vote. Independent Robert Raymond is also on the ballot.
5th Congressional District
State Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, R-Juneau, is hoping to succeed Republican Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, who is retiring after representing the ruby-red district for more than 40 years. Running against Fitzgerald is businessman Tom Palzewicz, the Democrat whom Sensenbrennerr beat 62% to 38% in 2018.
6th Congressional District
Republican Rep. Glenn Grothman is seeking a fourth term in a district that covers east-central Wisconsin, including a slice of Milwaukee’s northern exurbs.
He is being challenged by former state Sen Jessica King. Grothman won his last race with 55% of the vote.
7th Congressional District
Republican Tom Tiffany won the district covering the northern swath of the state in a May special election after Republican Rep. Sean Duffy stepped down.
Tiffany defeated Democrat Tricia Zunker, the president of the Wausau School Board, 57% to 43% in the May special election and the two are having a rematch on Tuesday.
8th Congressional District
Republican Rep. Mike Gallagher is fending off a challenge from Democratic state Rep. Amanda Stuck for the district that covers the northeastern corner of the state, including Green Bay. Gallagher won his first term in 2016 with 63% of the vote.
